Hide in City
Hideincity is, above all, an extraordinary work of architecture. A sensitive renovation of a liqueur distillery dating from 1840 has created a unique place for romantic getaways in the foothills of the Orlické Mountains. Just a few steps from the town centre, lose yourself in a mysterious garden where every detail has been crafted with exceptional care and a keen eye for precision, beauty and intrigue.
The building stands on a rocky outcrop beside the ruins of the old 1840 distillery, close to the town square. From the window and terrace, enjoy a Lhoták-inspired view across the valley, the river and the urban landscape.
Our house and its enchanting garden form a harmonious whole. During the renovation, we first removed several vaults, raised the roof and opened up the space beneath it. The living area flows into the sleeping area, and we created a library—a place to relax and reflect while gazing at the starry sky. The reclining window in the library, facing the ruins, is a romantic picture that enhances the spirit of the place.
The kitchenette is minimalist and technical in style. The bathroom is clad in local sandstone, whose beautiful patterns evoke ancient nautical charts. The interior and façades are hand-plastered in natural hues. The corners are rounded to make the spaces flow more freely. The exposed marlstone wall, to which the house is attached, runs the length of the property.
Among the distinctive features are a chandelier, paintings from a private collection focused on young contemporary artists, and a tapestry collection: one contemporary tapestry by Anna Štajglová and one historic piece from Karel Čapek’s study. Fire is another important element. The main architect is the context.
Your stay includes access to the fountain-style swimming pool, early check-in, late check-out, parking, Wi-Fi, toiletries, a fireplace, firewood, a barbecue and a cot.
Please leave your dog at home this time. An outdoor pine hot tub is available in the garden for a flat fee of CZK 1,000.

There’s also a lovely Sázava bakery on the square in Vamberk—ideal for picking up breakfast. It opens at 6:00 a.m. and has excellent warm rolls :-)
The lace museum is right on Vamberk’s square. Lace-making has been a traditional craft in the town for centuries.
For a good meal, I recommend the inn U Hubálků in Kostelecká Lhota. The food is excellent, but you should reserve a table in advance. Another option is Venclův statek in Javornice.
10-2000 m
During the summer, Vamberk’s outdoor swimming pool is open, with two pools, slides and refreshments. On weekends, it’s open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. You can also enjoy an early swim in the 50-metre lap pool—at 9:00 a.m., you’ll probably have it to yourself.
I also recommend a walk to Peklo nad Zdobnicí. There’s one of the oldest wooden bridges in Bohemia; just beyond it is a mill with trout ponds. The owner, Mr Zientek, will clean the trout for you so you can grill them in the garden. Phone: 608 266 093.
2-10 km
1. Visit Potštejn, about 3 km away. Park in the village centre and walk upstream along the Divoká Orlice River, past Potštejn Castle, then return to the centre and visit the Clock microbrewery. The village also has a lovely chateau and park, open to the public for most of the year. The 14th-century ruins of Potštejn Castle stand on a hill reached by a Stations of the Cross trail.
2. Častolovice Chateau and its park, about 6 km away. There’s a lovely, stylish café in the chateau courtyard.
3. Rychnov nad Kněžnou Chateau and its park, 10 km away.
4. Doudleby nad Orlicí Chateau and its park, 3 km away.
5. Kostelec nad Orlicí Chateau and its park, 5 km away.
6. Neratov Church, about a 40-minute drive away. This is a unique restoration of a historic building, featuring a glass roof.
7. Pastviny Reservoir, about a 25-minute drive away. Brave swimmers can take a dip all year round; everyone else can enjoy swimming in the summer. You can rent pedal boats or a rowboat, go fishing, and easily spend the whole day there.
